POSITIVE DISCIPLINE

POSITIVE DISCIPLINE

POSITIVE DISCIPLINE

Both to resolve conflicts and to guide our educational practice and help children in dealing with the basic rules of coexistence and respect for oneself, colleagues, materials and the environment, at “GreenLeaves Montessori” we are motivated by the pedagogic principles underlined by Positive Discipline.

We define Positive Discipline as an educational model created by and for understanding behavior, of both children and their families, and a way of addressing their attitude so as to guide them on their pathway, always in a positive, affective way, but also firm and respectful.

To resolve conflicts

Our whole educational team is based on communication, love, understanding and empathy to enjoy relationships both with the children and with their families, and the ability to provide tools that help understand their children’s behavior (even when it is not appropriate) and re-orient it with respect, without power struggles and always from a positive viewpoint.

This is an approach that does not include either excessive control or permissiveness. It is based on mutual respect and collaboration, all with the intention of teaching children basic life skills.

The pedagogic pillars

The pedagogic pillars that underlie Positive Discipline are as shown below:

  • Be kind and firm at the same time (respectful and motivational)
  • Help children feel important (adult-child connection before correction)
  • Teach valuable life skills (respect, ability to solve problems, participation, responsibility…)
  • Learn the logical and natural consequences of their actions.
  • Help children to develop their capacities and be aware of them.
  • Not include physical punishment, emotional blackmail or manipulation.
  • Be effective in the long term long term in different social contexts.
